Build resilience by practicing self-compassion. Confront your own suffering with an attitude of warmth and kindness, without judgment. In one study, participants who practiced self-compassion reported more life satisfaction, with lower depression, anxiety, and stress afterward compared to people who didn’t practice self-compassion: Self-Compassion Exercises
Cultivate a growth mindset. Students with a growth mindset feel their skills and intelligence can be improved with effort and persistence. They embrace challenges, persist through obstacles, learn from criticism and seek out inspiration in others’ success. Take the mindset assessment here.

Know your strengths. Character strengths are the positive parts of your personality that make you feel authentic and engaged. Research shows that understanding and applying your strengths can help boost confidence, increase happiness, strengthen relationships, reduce stress and manage problems. Practice gratitude. The negatives in our lives- disappointments, resentments, and fears- sometimes occupy more of our attention than the positives. By intentionally developing a grateful outlook, we see more of the good in our lives. Manage anxiety. It’s common to experience some anxiety while coping with stressful events or changes, especially if they could have a big impact on your life. Anxiety can be a feeling that comes and goes, but if anxiety persists or begins to interfere with your everyday life, it can feel unmanageable.
